Founded in 2020, International Yacht Marine Certification Society (iymcs), the founders have worked to develop a course certification structure to meet international maritime and educational standards. Recognizing the industry's need for practical skills, modern resources, and integrity, we developed advanced course materials and a flexible certification system. Through collaboration with schools and academies as Members, offering expert support, and prioritizing feedback, we aim to cultivate a professional community and ensure long-term success for instructors, students, and schools. At iymcs, we’re driven by a simple yet powerful vision: to empower a new generation of skilled, confident, and mindful maritime enthusiasts. We believe the sea transforms lives – and we’re here to transform maritime education, support schools, students, and training providers worldwide in delivering high-quality education aligned with IMO standards and European educational standards. Our mission is to equip yachtsmen/yachtswomen with real skills, a sense of responsibility, and a deep respect for the marine environment.

What About Acceptance and Recognition Of The iymcs Certifications?

Our Society continously liaises with 18 Flag Administrations to seek recognition and/or acceptance on a "case-by-case" basis for a selection of the iymcs Courses, Certifications and CoC's. Since June 2020, we have been issuing iymcs Certifications, we have received enquiries from flag administrations and insurance underwriters regarding iymcs Certificate holders, we have successfully provided support to them and liaised with their requirements.
This "case-by-case" acceptance can be attributed to our work that have undertaken to ensure compliance and adherence to the IMO Conventions, as well as our quality standards of our operations that have been audited and certified by BSI to ISO 9001:2015 Standards: Furthermore, this acceptance has been enhanced by our Society being a European registered, and audited as a professional vocational training Institute, under the CRKBO Registry in the Netherlands.

What Are The Standards That iymcs Work To?

Our Society does not set its own standards, it works to international conventions and regulations set by the IMO, ITU and national maritime authorities who issue Marine Guidance Notices or Marine Information Notices regarding their regulations and codes of practice.

We have been Certified by the British Standards Institute (BSI) and issued an ISO 9001:2015 Certification. The all-important scope of the Certification is stated as "Provision of approved training courses to members including individual certification services".

The CRKBO is the Central Register for Short Vocational Education. Admittance into this register is exclusive to educational institutions that operate within the quality code and regulations set forth by the Dutch government within the European Union guidelines for quality vocational education.
